Introduction to Ecological Offsets (More than just wetland banking)

Introduction to Ecological Offsets (More than just wetland banking) Presenter: Jon Kasitz, RES When?   Thursday, March 28, 2024; 8:30am-10:00am Cost?   Free for CCE Members Location?  West Goshen Township Administrative Building, 2nd Floor, 1025 Paoli Pike, West Chester, PA 19380 (please park in the lot designated for training events) Description: As regulations covering land-development projects continue to evolve, more and more projects are requiring one or more types of environmental or ‘ecological offsets’ to mitigate the project’s unavoidable impacts to sensitive environmental resources, such as wetlands, riparian buffers, and endangered species, and water-quality. The ecological offset market started in the 1990’s with wetland mitigation banking (fill in one acre of wetland, replace one acre somewhere else), but now in PA also includes streams, riparian buffers, endangered species (bats and bog turtles), and water-quality (MS4 and NPDES). Jon will provide an overview of how…more »

Challenges of Treating High-Strength Non-Residential Wastewater Webinar

WEBINAR: Challenges of Treating High-Strength Non-Residential Wastewater Presenter: Oran Biehl, Premier Tech Water & Environmental When: Thursday, February 29, 2024; 10:30am-12:00pm ET Cost:  Free for CCE members only Location:  Webinar (via Zoom) Description:  Wastewater is usually defined as high strength when concentrations of BOD, TSS, FOG, or nitrogen are higher than typical domestic wastewater. The focus of this webinar is commercial and non-residential water usages that lead to unusual or high onsite wastewater strengths. These include restaurants, truck stops, breweries, etc. Many states now recognize that the treatment of high BOD5, TSS, or FOG concentrations requires different strategies than those used for typical domestic applications. Several pretreatment possibilities exist, but the extent to which they reduce high-strength wastewater is not fully understood. Treatment must not only reduce wastewater strength, but also bring effluent quality into conformity with stringent discharge limits. Highly variable conditions…more »
